Honorable Mention
The Bed (in the style of “The Raven” by Poe)
Danielle W.

While wandering in a tree filled glade, I came upon a bed well made
I looked with an odd expression at the bed amongst the trees
I thought to walk a little further but my mind did tend to wander
back to where I saw the bed, I felt suddenly weak to knees
"What would a bed in a glade be doing, and why goes weak my knees?
Such odd placement for a stately bed, here amongst the trees"

So with that I returned post haste, back to the bed so oddly placed
and looked upon the coverlet so warmly filled with fleece
I touched the bed, with finger traced, that sham so decked in frill and lace
It filled me with an unease but the reason I could not conceive
why would this bed, create within, a mind so much ill ease
while simply setting here alone amongst the trees.

But somewhere in my recollection, came a memory or reflection
of a bed that I had made while kneeling on my knees
And so I felt a shiver run, and knew that it was soul spun
And I fell with pleading heart and cries to now my aching knees
"Oh Lord," I prayed so earnestly, I offered up my pleas
while in my mind, the answer did so solemly tease

I heard His voice ring loud and clear, through glade unto my ear,
While I humbly kneeled before the Lord, down upon my knees.
And what he spoke did spin my head, while I knelt at this odd placed bed
deep within a darkening glade of tall and swaying trees,
:"You made this bed and though you cry out with such desperate pleas
This bed is yours to lie upon, here amongst the trees"

Though it made me trouble so, it was my choice and is my woe
and so I rose from kneeling despite my tembling knees
While visting within this glade, I this bed had so made
and within it now shall forever lay my fates and destinies”
So it is that this bed is so placed amongst the trees

Now somewhere within a tree filled glade there is a bed that is well made
and a woman ‘neath the coverlet that is warmly filled with fleece
A lesson lies here in these words and sayings that you’ve likely heard.
And will come so soft in yonder glade, whispering on the breeze
"you made your bed, now lie in it" will come your ears to tease
That the moral of the bed nestled in the trees.
